Founder Celebration

On Sunday February 25, 2018, the Ladies of Gamma Delta Omega Chapter celebrating Founders' Day 2018. 110 years of service to all mankind! 

One Million Backpacks

Service is what we do! The Ladies of Gamma Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated donated 300 backpacks to James Hurst Elementary School in Portsmouth, Virginia. The Principal is Mr. Barco. Thank you to our backpack partner AVID Education Program for their generous donation!

Childhood Hunger Awareness

In observance of Childhood Hunger Awareness Day, on Monday, October 16, 2017, the Family Strengthening Committee presented “Walking in the Promise Childcare Academy” with healthy snack bags. Each bag contained a bag of animal cookies, pretzels, fruit snacks, juice box, and a book. The books were a donation from the Book Drive Committee.

Thanks to the canned food drive, held at Roger Brown’s during “Game Night,” sponsored by Sisterly Yours, our chapter donated approximately 175 nonperishable items to the Portsmouth Department of Social Services food closet.

Enviromental Ownership

Celebrating "Earth Day"

On April 15, 2017, Gamma Delta Omega Partnered with the City of Portsmouth and Lowes to host a free drive-thru recycling event. Local Residents were able to come dispose of hazardous waste and household electronics.

On April 22, 2017, Gamma Delta Omega Participated with Keep Portsmouth Beautiful in the Great American Clean -Up by cleaning our Adopt-A-Spot Site!

On April 17, 2017, Gamma Delta Omega Partnered with Douglas  Park Elementary School Second Grade class to help celebrate Earth Day!!

On February 18, 2017, Gamma Omega Delta members engaged ASCEND students by celebrating several Historically Black College and Universities.

AKA Impact Day

Gamma Delta Omega Chapter members and friends participated in a full day of community activities in support of Heart Health Awareness.

 

Events were held at the Portsmouth Senior Station presented by the American Heart Association, followed by an evening at Roger Brown Restaurant.  

Echoes of Joy

On January 28, 2017, Twenty Pearls Inc., Gamma Delta Omega Chapter along with A.S.C.E.N.D volunteered at the community event Echoes of Joy in Portsmouth, VA.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

Gamma Delta Omega participated in a Community Service Event to highlight Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated Global Impact Day, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Members served as hostesses/ushers at the Martin Luther King Jr. "I Have A Dream' Annual Breakfast sponsored by Church and Community in Action. MLK Day of Service is observed as a National Day of Service - A 'Day ON, Not A Day OFF'.
