MLK Annual I Have A Dream Breakfast
On January 21, 2019, Gamma Delta Omega President, Diertra Dee Dee Jones, accepted the "Embracing Our Dream Makers" Award for Our Chapter's Outstanding Service to the Community. It was a honor for Members of Gamma Delta Omega (GDO) to serve as Greeters at the Church and Community In Action (CCIA) Martin Luther King Annual I Have A Dream Breakfast.
MLK Day of Service
In honor of MLK day the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Gamma Delta Omega Chapter is ‘making a difference" by volunteering at the American Red Cross. We participated in the Blood Drive by donating blood and serving others participants as they recovered from their donations.
Valiant Ivy & Pearls
Pink Goes Red 2019
Gamma Delta Omega Chapter Members wore RED to commemorate HEART HEALTH. Over 100 Alpha Kappa Alpha Women gathered at Roger Brown's Restaurant and took off Our PINK and wore RED to raise awareness of Heart Disease and promoted life changes that enhance healthy living and longevity. Alpha Kappa Alpha is proud to partner with the American Heart Association to fight against heart disease. As we observe "PINK GOES RED" Impact Day, we will continue to strengthen our partnership and educate our community.
GDO Retreat
Echos of Joy
City of Portsmouth, Virginia dedicated "A Day of Caring and Sharing" to Our Portsmouth Family. This Annual Event, "Echoes of Joy", provides free health screenings, haircuts, hair salon services, clothing, referrals, entertainment and a meal to the disadvantage and homeless attendees. Gamma Delta Omega Chapter Members were honored to volunteer to serve the buffet meal to our community members. We look forward to participating again next year.
International Day of Prayer
(Community Impact Day)
Service: (noun) “the action of helping or doing work for someone.” This morning our members were up and out early rendering service to our future world leaders. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Delta Omega Chapter and Twenty Pearls, Inc., Gamma Delta Omega’s Charitable arm awarded 14 recipients $20,000 in scholarships and honored community leaders and businesses for their commitment to education. In addition, patron sponsors were recognized for their contributions above and beyond the purchase of a ticket and the scholarship recipients each received a care basket.
Thank you to the Honorable Bobby Scott; The Honorable Judge Johnny Morrison; and The Honorable Cynthia Morrison, Clerk of the Circuit Court for your attendance and support. To everyone who supported and continues to support our endeavors to be of Service to All Mankind, your ticket purchases, donations, time and attendance are greatly appreciated. Without your generous support we could not do what we do. Congratulations to all the recipients and honorees.
AKA Gamma Delta Omega President Diertra "DeeDee" Jones envisioned a Chapter Retreat that would cultivate and motivate Our Next Leaders. AKA Fayequita L. P. Maycock, Chairman and the Standards Committee brought the Vision for A Leadership Development Retreat to Life. "Striving For Excellence Through Leadership" Retreat held on Saturday, August 17, 2019, invigorated and captivated the "Heart and Soul" of the Chapter with workshops that focused on "It Only Takes One", presenter Rev. Dr. Pamela Lee; Nurturing Our Ivy, presenter AKA Angela Berry and Our Charitable Arm, Twenty Pearls Inc., presenter Pearl Aurelia T. Williams. Thank You GDO: "What An Unifying Experience".
